The Astrological Meaning of Inner Main Belt Asteroids: Amor, Aten, Apollo, Hungaria

Volume 5 of the series Asteroids in Astrology focuses on Inner Main Belt and Near Earth Asteroids. This volume examines the astrological significance of 147 objects, including Earth Trojans, a Quasi-Satellite of Earth, Arjuna, Atira and Aten asteroids, as well as Apollo, Amor, Hungaria, and Alinda groups. Many of these bodies cross the orbits of Mars or Earth, and some are potentially hazardous due to impact risk.

Their meanings in horoscopes are diverse, precise, and highly relevant to natal, progressed, mundane, electional and especially forensic astrology.

Many Inner Main Belt Asteroids and NEAs were named after figures from Greek, Celtic, Mayan and other mythologies, often adding an extra dimension to their meaning.

The asteroids covered here are characterized by relatively short orbital periods. Consequently, their transits are brief — often lasting only hours, and rarely extending beyond a single day. Yet their effects are frequently strikingly concrete, specific, and situational.

In contrast to Trans-Neptunian Objects or many Centaurs, which tend to correlate with slow, deep-seated psychological processes or large-scale collective developments, fast-orbiting asteroids more often coincide with sharply defined moments, decisions, incidents, or technical details. In natal and event charts, however, this distinction largely dissolves.

A horoscope is a static configuration: every body, regardless of orbital speed, functions as a fixed point of concentration. Under these conditions, even very small asteroids can operate with considerable intensity — provided the aspecting is exact.

Example 1.: sex asteroid Riema (Hungaria class)

1025 RIEMA

One of the most potent sexual asteroids, covering a broad spectrum of sex-related activities, some quite explicit, with the potential for popularity as a pornstar when in exact conjunction, for example, with the Sun or MC.

Riema is a bright E-type Hungaria asteroid located in the innermost regions of the asteroid belt, with an approximate diameter of 5 kilometers. It was discovered on August 12, 1923, by German astronomer Karl Reinmuth at the Heidelberg Observatory in southwest Germany. The asteroid was named after ARI astronomer Johannes Riem. This minor planet was dedicated to Johannes Karl Richard Riem (1868–1945), a German astronomer at the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (ARI) in Berlin.

Astrologically, Riema is a distinctly sexual asteroid. The Sun is conjunct Mars/Lust/Neptune/Moon/Lupo at 19° Leo, square Salacia/2005 PQ21 in Scorpio (pornography, intensive masturbation), and trine Chrisodom (anal sexuality). Riema itself was positioned at the sexual degree of 17° Pisces at discovery, conjunct Uranus/Hylonome and opposite Toro. Eris was conjunct Pylenor/Ceto at the Aries Point and trine Messalina. Sex asteroid 1998 XB was conjunct Yes/2001 KN77/1994 JS. Venus is in Leo conjunct Flammario opposite Altjira. Altogether, sexuality is intensified in all possible ways and linked to a wide palette of indulgence, auto-eroticism, decadent decay, and addictions (Pylenor), and through the Venus connection with Flammario and Altjira, also with the paranormal or mystical.

In summary: The asteroid is associated with sexualized power dynamics, erotic obsession, and high libido. In combination with other asteroids, it can emphasize pornography, masturbation, fetishistic interests, or sexual decadence. Its placement can indicate sexual prominence or notoriety, as well as connections between sexuality and mystical, psychological, or transformative experiences.

Forensically, Riema is strongly linked to careers or public notoriety connected to sexual performance, including adult entertainment or pornstar activity.

The orbital period is 2 years and 285 days.

Example 2.: asteroid Cadmus (Alinda class)

Excelling at something

Cadmus is an Alinda and Apollo asteroid, approximately 3 – 6.3 km in diameter, and was discovered on June 4, 1992, by Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker. The name Cadmus derives from the Greek-Phoenician words Kekasmai (κεκασμαι), Kadmos (Κάδμος), or qadmon, meaning: someone who shines in a particular area or excels; someone from the East; or someone “ancient,” in the sense of belonging to antiquity.

In myth, Cadmus was a Phoenician prince, son of King Agenor and Queen Telephassa of Tyre, and brother to Phoenix, Cilix, and Europa. His parents sent him out to escort Europa home after she had been abducted by Zeus.

In the natal chart, Cadmus indicates where and how a person can excel or stand out, as well as, through opposition, areas in which they are less likely to excel. It therefore provides insight into talent, affinities, and aversions. Excelling is most effectively achieved through Mercurial activity, such as writing or communication, and in the modern context Cadmus can also foster a strong affinity for — or even an addiction to — the internet.

Cadmus functions best within the context of business, professional life, or one’s household and family. It heightens intelligence but can also create some instability in emotional life and mood swings. There is an enigmatic quality surrounding those with Cadmus conjunct the Sun or Ascendant, giving a leaning toward the mystical, riddles, secrets, or the search for things suspected to be missing — whether in oneself, in the lives or personalities of others (often unfindable), or elsewhere in the world (give it a try).
Ultimately, although curious about the new, Cadmus tends to gravitate toward prevailing opinions or conventional ideas of the time, seeking to express creativity within a structured framework. Cognitive dissonances introduced by new perceptions or concepts can feel disruptive to emotional equilibrium. A dominant Cadmus may, for example, ambitiously seek recognition such as “Employee of the Month.”

Those with a strong Cadmus must stay vigilant within their networks, as choosing the wrong network can expose them to negative or distorting influences. The drive to excel must be carefully balanced with self-integrity; a similarly rigorous sense of personal integrity is also essential for success in love and for attracting the right people into one’s social or professional circles (Orcus sextile Venus in the Cadmus discovery chart).

Physiologically, afflictions can manifest in digestion, bowel issues, stomach, arm, or shoulder, as well as heart and lungs.

The orbital period is 4 years and 19 days.

Example 3.: asteroid Orthos (Apollo class)

2329 ORTHOS

Border security; double espionage; operating between two worlds or planes; encoding or decoding conditional misinformation; skeletons coming out of the closet

Asteroid 2329 Orthos was discovered on November 19, 1976 by Hans-Emil Schuster and has an estimated mean diameter between 3.2 and 7.1 km. Orthos is named after the monstrous two-headed dog of Greek mythology who guarded the cattle of Geryon and was slain by Heracles during one of his labors. Also known as Orthrus or Ortros, Orthos was the brother of the three-headed Cerberus and a child of Echidna and Typhon, placing him firmly within the lineage of liminal guardians and threshold monsters.

Mythologically, Orthos represents vigilance at boundaries: not the gate of the underworld itself (Cerberus), but a peripheral frontier, where valuable resources, secrets, or power are protected from intrusion. The two heads symbolize simultaneous dual awareness—looking in two directions at once, monitoring opposing sides, or maintaining divided loyalties. Unlike Cerberus’ overt intimidation, Orthos operates through endurance, persistence, and constant surveillance rather than brute terror.

Astrologically, Orthos signifies border control, double espionage, and functioning on the margins between systems, identities, or realities. Key themes include operating with “two food bowls”—maintaining parallel affiliations, allegiances, or information streams—and working at the interface between two worlds, planes, or narratives. Orthos often appears where information is conditionally encoded or decoded, where misinformation is managed, filtered, or strategically released depending on context or audience.

It can point to hidden histories, concealed truths, or skeletons in the closet that may either remain buried or be deliberately exposed at a critical moment.

Forensically, Orthos is strongly associated with intelligence services, covert operations, and especially double agents—figures who survive by balancing contradiction and sustained psychological strain. The symbol of the “bitten owl” underscores compromised wisdom or insight gained at a cost: knowing too much, seeing too much, or being wounded by what one must guard or conceal.

At its best, Orthos grants remarkable stamina, resilience, and situational awareness; at its shadow end, it describes paranoia, divided identity, or the eventual collapse of secrecy under pressure.
